Waste
Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Directive
Compuwight is fully committed to the new EU
Directive on Waste Electrical Equipment.
Many items of WEEE contain materials that in
time could cause damage to the environment if
disposed of with general household waste. The
European WEEE Directive has been put in place to
reduce this potential environmental damage by
making producers of electrical and electronic
equipment (EEE) responsible for the costs of its
environmental disposal. The UK Regulations place
a responsibility on retailers that sell EEE to
householders to provide information to their
customers on their options for the disposal of
WEEE.
Compuwight has decided to offer the option of
providing in-store take-back of WEEE from its
customers. This means that we are obliged to
accept waste electrical products back from our
customers at no cost provided that:
They are of a similar nature to the product
being purchased
They are of an equivalent quantity to the number
being purchased
They do not contravene any Health and Safety
requirements i.e. they are free from
contaminants such as foodstuffs, chemicals etc.
You
may return waste electrical products that fulfil
these requirements within 28 days of purchasing
a new product under the above conditions.
Under the Regulations, products that fall within
the scope of EEE are required to be marked by a
crossed out wheely bin symbol. This signifies
that the products should not be disposed of with
general waste although it is not an offence to
do so.
If
you do not wish to dispose of your waste
electrical and electronic products by returning
them to Compuwight when you purchase a new
product, then you can make your own
arrangements.
